Can anyone identify this symbol for me?
I have a Chinese friend who wears a heavy gold expensive-looking pendant around his neck. On the front it has a classical woman's face, like the ones you see on Grecian urns or on cameo brooches. On the back is an American eagle clutching 13 arrows.
It struck me as unusual, but when I asked him about it, he evaded the question and didn't seem to want to say. This is very uncharacteristic, as he is generally very open about everything and loves chatting about his possessions and telling the "stories" behind them.
Does anyone know what this symbol, or seal, means?
If it's any help, he is in his 40s, married, comfortably off and politically fairly conservative, with no religion that I know of.

It sounds from your description like a gold liberty head quarter or $2.50 coin. The links below have pictures of these coins. The third link has an estimated number of the liberty $2.50 coin still in existence (many years have 0 left). Perhaps it is fairly rare and he didn't feel comfortable telling you what it was because of the value (assuming this pendant is actually made from a liberty quarter).
